World Aquatics Points turn a swim time into a score for a specific event, making performances easier to compare across strokes, distances, genders, and courses.
FINA is the former name of World Aquatics, so FINA Points and World Aquatics Points are often used for the same swimming points system.
The swimming points formula compares a swimmer time with the official base time for the same event:
P = 1000 × (B / T)^3
P = points, B = base time, and T = swimmer time. Both B and T are measured in seconds. Matching the base time equals 1000 points, while faster swims produce higher scores. World Aquatics sets base times for each scoring period using the latest approved world records, with separate periods for SCM and LCM. Official base times are maintained on the official World Aquatics Swimming Points page.
Select an event, then enter a swim time to calculate points or enter points to estimate the race time needed for that score.
This swimming points calculator supports the events included in its embedded base time data, organized by gender, course, stroke, and distance.
For official formulas, base times, and scoring tables, refer to the official World Aquatics Swimming Points page.
Swimming Points Calculator is an independent tool and is not affiliated with World Aquatics.
